About the Research Area

Modern semiconductor devices are becoming smaller, more complex, and increasingly three-dimensional. This creates a growing need for technologies that can deposit ultra-thin films with atomic-level precision.

Atomic Layer Deposition, also known as ALD, is one of the most important techniques used for producing highly controlled thin films in advanced semiconductor manufacturing. It plays a key role in fabricating nanoscale device components such as gate dielectrics, interconnects, and surface coatings.

This PhD project focuses on area-selective atomic layer deposition, where material growth is limited to specific regions of a surface. This approach is highly relevant for next-generation semiconductor fabrication and advanced nanomanufacturing.

  • Apply in situ spectroscopy to understand physical and chemical surface reactions
  • Analyse large experimental datasets using programming tools
  • Prepare scientific papers for international journals
  • Present research findings at international conferences
  • Support Master’s students during thesis projects
  • Contribute to selected teaching activities

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should have a Master of Science degree or equivalent qualification in one of the following areas:

  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Engineering Physics

  • Semiconductor Technology
  • Related disciplines

Final-year Master’s students who will complete their degree before the appointment date may also apply.


Required Skills

  • Python programming skills for data handling and analysis
  • Ability to work with large scientific datasets
